CIWiL congratulates the only woman elected to the Montserrat Legislative Assembly-Veronica Dorsette-Hector
Plymouth, Montserrat – 19 November, 2019 (MNT): The Caribbean Women in Leadership (CIWiL) congratulates, a CIWiL Graduate, Ms. Veronica Dorsette-Hector, the only woman elected to the Montserrat Legislative Assembly after yesterday’s General Elections.
CIWiL President Lady Anande Trotman-Joseph in congratulating Ms. Dorsette-Hector reiterated, “Veronica Dorsette-Hector joins a growing cadre of women in political leadership across the Caribbean, who represent the region’s resilience and promise. It is our collective expectation that she will bring to bear her experience in community, teaching and justice systems, to be a transformational leader in Montserrat’s governance landscape“.
Montserrat increased its women candidates from five (5) in 2014 to eight in 2019. However, the gains made which saw two (2) women elected to political office in 2014 have been rolled back with only one successful woman in this election.
CIWiL congratulates all of the women candidates who contested the General Elections and expresses the hope that more will be done by the Government’s policies to increase women’s participation in political and public life in Montserrat.
CIWiL encourages and will continue to work to prepare aspiring women for effective leadership.
