YOUth Lead: A Toolkit for Transformational Leadership to Support Gender Equality

YOUth Lead: A Toolkit for Transformational Leadership to Support Gender Equality is a toolkit that was developed by Caribbean Women in Leadership (CIWiL) and ParlAmericas for every young Caribbean person who wants to enhance their leadership and advocacy capabilities to create positive social transformation in their community, country and region. It is for aspiring and driven youth changemakers, young women leaders, and feminists in the Caribbean across all disciplines, industries and sectors.

The toolkit was conceptualised in consultation with participants and graduates of the Young Women in Leadership (YWiL), a programme facilitated by CIWiL and ParlAmericas, which brings together diverse young women who are interested in politics and community leadership for a series of skills-building workshops and dialogue on themes of importance to their countries, culminating in an all-women sitting in the national parliament of the host country. The YWiLs were so impactful upon the lives of participants, that we came to the recognition that the core learnings of YWiL could be adapted into practical, easy-to-use, youth-friendly knowledge products with the potential of reaching and being accessible to a greater number of young persons from all across the Caribbean and beyond, than was previously possible before.

The toolkit includes four (4) modules:

  • Learning to Lead – Laying the Foundations for Transformational Leadership
  • Leading by Doing: Taking Up Space and Driving Change
  • Being Your Best Self: Protecting Your Mental Wealth
  • Gender Equality 101: Key Concepts and Issues
The modules are best approached as a wholistic toolkit since they address interconnected subject matter. At the same time, depending on your needs, they can each be used as a standalone resource, and in no particular order. Each module includes relevant links and references to external resources.

Collectively, the modules in the toolkit use accessible language, reflection prompts and regional examples to deconstruct ideas and subjects related to gender equality, women’s human rights, women’s leadership, and transformational leadership. The toolkit outlines and describes prominent feminist issues in the region and offers the conceptual and practical tools of transformational leadership to address those issues from a gender, human rights perspective. Also included are pragmatic tips and techniques for safeguarding mental health and wellbeing, that young leaders can both apply to their own lives and incorporate into their leadership.

Invest in your growth. Go ahead and download the toolkit and make it a part of your leadership journey.
