Women in Leadership in St. Vincent and the Grenadines – Getting to 30%
Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – 9 October, 2020 (SVG): Let’s work together to increase women’s representation in all spaces of leadership and decision-making! The Caribbean Women in Leadership (CIWiL) is calling on women to mobilise and join us to become part of the CIWiL St. Vincent and the Grenadines National Chapter.
CIWiL is a flagship networking organisation committed to advancing transformational leadership and increasing the numbers of women in leadership and decision-making in political and civic life, proportionate to the female population in Caribbean countries.
Women are Change Makers
Women make up approximately 49.2% of St. Vincent’s population. However,
- Only three (3) of the twenty-three (23) members of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines House of Assembly are women;
- At 13% women in the lower house, St. Vincent and the Grenadines ranks 151 out of 193 countries in the global ranking of women in Parliament -“IPU’s global data on national parliaments”, the third lowest in the English-speaking Caribbean; and
- 4% of top company executives and 11% of senior managers are women – ILO Women in Business and Management Report, 2018.
Let’s work together for change! Join the regional movement to advance women’s equality in leadership and decision making! On Monday 12th October, 2020 at 6:30 pm join us on the CIWiL Facebook page for a live discussion on Women in Leadership and Decision-Making in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. This conversation will be moderated by Ms. La Fleur Quammie, Co-ordinator of the Gender Affairs Division, SVG. It will be streamed live on Zoom and on CIWiL’ s Facebook page @CIWiL90. #womeninleadership #CIWiL.
Currently, CIWiL has active national chapters in Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, St Kitts and Nevis, and Trinidad and Tobago. We welcome St. Vincent and the Grenadines to join the CIWiL National Chapter network. We work collectively across the region and, amongst other objectives:
- promote women’s increased participation, leadership and decision-making in politics and public life, civil society and the private sector, and
- promote participatory, people-centred development, based on principles of human rights, gender equality and equity, economic and social justice, and environmental sustainability.
