About the Conference
CIWiL’s Regional Women’s Leadership Conference will spotlight the critical area, “Women in Power and Decision-Making” through a high-level fireside chat, keynote addresses, and thematic parallel sessions designed to strengthen women’s transformational leadership capacities in the private sector, civil society and politics and public life. A key outcome of the conference will be a regional statement which incorporates multi-sectoral recommendations extrapolated from sessions, and which can be used thereafter in advocacy at all levels for sustainable gender-responsive leadership and governance, and the equal and inclusive representation of women in decision-making systems.
Conference objectives:
- Consider and further dialogue on the status of women’s substantive equality in the region – particularly the progress as well as persistent, emerging and current challenges to women’s power and decision-making.
- Strengthen the technical capacity of leaders in business, private sector and civil society to lead effectively, navigate the challenges in their sectors, and overcome specific obstacles faced by women leaders.
- Highlight the distinct and synergistic spheres of influence and responsibility of various stakeholders – government, academia, women’s organisations, civil society, private sector – in advancing gender equality, women’s empowerment and leadership.
- Articulate areas for multistakeholder regional and international collaboration to close the gaps and accelerate action towards advancing women’s equal access to and full participation in power structures and decision-making, and increasing women’s capacity to participate in decision-making and leadership.
