CIWiL Trinidad and Tobago National Chapter Executive Elections
Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – 7 July 2020 (TTO): – The Caribbean Women in Leadership (CIWiL) is pleased to announce the establishment of CIWiL Trinidad and Tobago National Chapter on 1 July, 2020.
The Trinidad and Tobago National Chapter is the 3rd National Chapter established in Caribbean, with active Chapters in St Kitts and Nevis and the Bahamas. The CIWiL Trinidad and Tobago National Chapter Executive:
- Ashlee A. Burnett – Chairperson
- Ruqayyah Scott – Vice Chairperson
- K’Areece Rogers – Secretary
- Onilaja Ogunsanwo – Treasurer
- Cindy N. Andrews – Public Relations Officer
At this meeting the CIWiL Trinidad and Tobago National Chapter also welcomed Hazel Brown as Patron of the National Chapter. Chapter Chair Ashlee Burnett shared “As the youngest Chairperson elected to a CIWiL National Chapter, I am humbled by the opportunity to lead. The TT National Chapter, plans to be on the frontline, learning, engaging, equipping ourselves and others with the necessary skills, tools and forming alliances necessary to lead, to work together to be the change and further greater gender equality throughout the region. I’m happy to begin the journey, to lead, to stand on the shoulders of the strong Caribbean Feminists who have paved the way and continue to do so.”
The formation and activities of National Chapters across the region aims to:
- broaden perspectives on women’s political participation,
- facilitate inclusive strong community level engagement,
- build partnerships across political and professional lines including men as allies,
- implement projects/ initiatives that advance women’s transformational leadership.
CIWiL will continue to work to prepare aspiring women for effective leadership throughout the region.
